Dee and I were hired by a friend to make invitations, buffet tags, a door sign, and diaper cake for her sister Kelly's baby shower. Kelly and her hubby are having a little boy and the nursery is decorated in a rocket theme with sage, black and white accents. I used one of the new Cricut cartridges "Everyday Paper Dolls" for almost all of the items created. The two paper doll cartridges that Provocraft created for the Cricut are fabulous! There is far more than just paper dolls and clothes on both.
Invitation: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" to fit a standard invitation envelope. The black mat is a cardstock we custom order by the ream from a local paper company. It really has a nice weight and stands up to anything I stick to it.
Typeset the invite in MS Publisher and ran white cardstock through my printer. The rocket is cut from the Everyday Paper Dolls cartridge and uses a sage green and navy blue Bazzill cardstock and a shiny metallic silver cardstock (manufacturer unknown). I then embellished it with a white gel pen and adhered it to the invitation.
Buffet Tags: Same card stock and rocket embellishment as the invitation. This card is 4" x 6" when folded.
Welcome Sign: This was designed with two purposes in mind. One, to hang on the front door to welcome guests to the Baby Shower; and two, to then hang on the baby's room door. The sign is 12" x 12" and has a 12 x 12 piece of Bazzill Beetle Black, then a black and white polka dot paper by Reminisce cut to 11 1/2" x 11 1/2". The next layer is a sage green Bazzill cardstock (I think it was Guacamole) cut to 11" x 11". The "Welcome" was cut from a piece of scrap red cardstock and is from the Animal Kingdom cartridge. The Astronaut and rocket are from the Everyday Paper Dolls cartridge and were created from scrap cardstock. I adhered the completed sign to a piece of chipboard, punched two holes using my Crop-A-Dile and tied a black grosgrain ribbon for the hanger.
Diaper Cake: This truly is the piece de resistance! I literally had a "blast" making this diaper cake . . . pun absolutely intended! Same cardstock and scraps used as well as some vellum (UFO) and "bling." The rocket's exhaust was created using the Cricut Design Studio and the Calligraphy Collection cartridge. I hid the inner cut lines and welded together several of the flourishes (image6) to create the exhaust clouds. The little boy's name was created using the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge using the endcaps feature. The single stars were also cut using Plantin Schoolbook. Embellishments were ink pens and glitter glue (not Stickles, I use the Joann's brand, it works just as well and costs less!). Silver floral wire was used to make the rocket soar and the stars hang in the "atmosphere."
