Cooking With Cricut Challenge: Shadow Projects

In honor of Ground Hog Day we were challenged by Melin at Cooking With Cricut to create a project using a shadow of some sort -- either a title with a shadow or a die cut with a shadow.

I really wanted to do a groundhog card -- but couldn't find a cut in the cartridges I own that had anything closer than the mole on the Pooh & Friends cartridge.  And a mole doesn't look much like a groundhog.  Back to the drawing board.  Then I thought . . . naw, that wouldn't work.  Hmmm . . . aha!

The Paper Pups cartridge is all about shadows!  But, I had to change it up a bit . . . kinda how I roll!  LOL!  I wanted my dog and cat to have shadows.

So here is how I did it:

I cut the cat and dog four times - a white layer for my base;  brown layer for the dog; an orange layer for the cat; and finally a black layer.  Before I cut the black base layer (solid piece) I skewed it in Design Studio using the slant feature.

The sun, clouds and heart are all from Paper Pups as is the heart on the inside of the card.  The "i" and the "u" were cut using Pooh Font.  I went back to my stamping "roots" so to speak and colored my kitty and pup with watercolor pencils and then used a blender pen to give it that water colored-look.  Added a little bit of doodling to the clouds and the solid heart and called it finished.

All of the paper is from my scrap stash.  The card stock base is Bazzill "Vibrant Blue."  The card measures 5 1/2" wide by 4 1/4" tall when closed.

You may have noticed the new "blinkie" at the top left of my blog.  The Cooking With Cricut Design Team is hosting a Sweet Shop Blog Hop on Saturday and Sunday, February 12 & 13.  You won't want to miss it!   There will be prizes at each of the 23 blogs in the hop and Melin has rounded up some wonderful prizes for six lucky winners.  So mark your calendars and make sure you check back both days!

So ends my salute to Punxsutawney Phil. And please, Phil, I'm begging you . . . keep your furry butt out of that burrow and bring on the Spring! I don't think any of us can handle six more weeks of winter!!!!

Make sure you cruise on over to Cooking With Cricut and see what my fellow Chefs have whipped up for your viewing pleasure!  And don't forget to create your "shadow" project and join in the fun!
